I believe the school has helped me very much with both of my older children. My child is on top of his school work thanks to the amazing dedication of the team, He needs extra motivation and no matter what the teachers never give up. I believe the teachers and staff work very hard for the progress of the students. The best part is that everyone works very hard to influence students towards gaining a college career, they help form their future like no one else can, they help us the parents in all that we need. My child doesn’t just attend this school, everyone at DHS is part of my family. It has been a pleasure and honor having both of my children in this amazing high school, I will be eternally grateful.

Transitioning to H.S. can be an intimidating experience for a young person, however, Discovery H.S. helped my son do it with ease. The principal, teachers, and staff leave you with a sense of reassurance that your child will be in a safe progressive educational environment that meets the needs of today while preparing them for those of tomorrow. The teachers display a passion for their profession. They are dedicated, focused, and go beyond their potential to provide students the help needed to succeed. Students can take advantage of programs and resources for college preparation. The school’s aura is one of a close family. Overall, Discovery H.S. continues to meet my expectations and I believe encompasses what a positive H.S. experience should be like.

I absolutely love DHS! I graduated in 2009, today, I hold a Bachelors in Science, I am a registered nurse, working in a pediatric emergency room, at one of the top hospitals in the city. I have my dream job and I am as happy as one can ever even imagine of being. When looking back to my high school years, I owe my happiness and success to the amazing hard work that my teachers and all of the members of DHS did to help me be where I am today. When at DHS everyone was always striving to get the best out of everyone. They never gave up, and always loaned a hand. I remember having an amazing relationship with all of the superiors and always being able to come to for anything needed. I believe this high school is amazing and really shapes a person. My younger brother is currently a senior at DHS and I have to say nothing has changed. The teachers and staff members are amazing, have great communication and always want the best for their students. I love DHS, the teachers and staff members will always have a special place in my heart.

To Whom It May Concern:

I would like to start off by introducing myself. My name is Lynn Gonzales. My daughter, Alicia graduated from Discovery High School in June 2010. The Parent Coordinator, Ms. Sanchez called me to ask if my daughter or I could attend a meeting to speak about our experience at Discovery High School. We would be more than happy to have done so but due to a prior engagement that could not be changed we could not. I would like to voice my opinion so I asked if I could send this letter.

Our journey at Discovery was a great one. I say “our” journey as an involved parent I became a part of the Discovery family. Our first year at Discovery there was a different principal, Mr. Goldner. Mr. Rivera had taken over as principal for my daughter’s sophomore year. Listening to Mr. Rivera talk about his goals for Discovery inspired me to become more involved in a school that I believed would work for our children. I became the Parent’s Association President for two years then the PA secretary. I was also part of the School Leadership Team for three years. There were also times I would come into the office to help out with their efforts to outreach to more parents. From experience I can tell you that whatever action plan they set out at the beginning of the year was in effect that same year. I know because I was there.

I was very impressed with the teachers and staff as well. They had a system going that I had never seen before. Teachers and staff would meet every week to help one another better their teaching skills. They spent evenings, lunch breaks even some weekends planning. Mr. Rivera, the principal did what he called a walk through when he would visit class to class to see his action plan in progress. Another important fact is that I knew my daughter was safe while at school. The security at Discovery was phenomenal. Everyone knew everyone on a first name basis. The children always had someone to confide in. I knew my daughter was in the right place.

I feel I must mention that my daughter was one of the students to graduate with an advanced regent’s diploma. Although it was her who took the tests and put in the hard work but the teachers and staff did their part to ensure she was well prepared.

In conclusion, there is no doubt in my mind that Discovery High School is one of the finest high schools in New York. They provide a safe place for our children to obtain a quality education while in an environment that feels like home. I truly can say that I miss being part of such a wonderful family.

Me llamo Maria Victorio, me encataria expresar mi agradecimiento a la escuela superior Discovery, por el apoyo y alluda que e recivido en estos dos años escolares. En mi busqueda de seleccionar una buena escuela para hijo, yo y Acdel visitamos muchas escuelas. Desde el primer dia que yo me presente en la escuela Superior Discovery me encontre con un personal muy amable. En la presentacion de la escuela, mi experiencia fue muy grata, ya que me explicaron con detalles de las reglas y regulaciones de la escuela Discovery. Esto aclaro mis dudas y preocupaciones y me encanto esa reunion. Esa reunion me ayudo a selecion la escuela Discovery para mi hijo. Fue muy grato saber que mi hijo empezaria en una escuela muy responsable. Han pasado dos anos y me siento muy contenta con la escuela Discovery. En cada reunion siempre tenemos informacion y sobre todo la escuela se comunica contigo siempre. Como madre me siento muy segura de saber que me hijo esta asistiendo a una buena escuela. Estoy muy contenta y agradecida con la escuela y los miembros del plantel por su apoyo incondicional con mi hijo y con mi persona.

My name is Milagros Marte and I am a single mother with 2 kids. My children attended Discovery Highschool. When my daughter first entered highschool I was very concerned at first. Contemplating whether I selected the right school for her, but from the very first month she was there I felt that I chose the right school. Discovery is a school where the staff and chilldren communicate as if they were family. From the main office to the teachers I was able to recieve support so that my daughter could get the best possible education. My daughter madison graduated with an advanced regents diploma and is now attending Susquehanna University with a presidential scholarship. Thank you Discovery for the support, communications, worries, and meetings so that she couldve recieved the best possible education. She graduated the class of 2013. Now my son who is currently attending Discovery. Will graduate this year in 2015 thanks to the support of Mrs.Sanchez especially. She made sure he was on top of what needed to be done and ensured he took the necessary steps to do so. Thank you as well to all of his teachers of whom cared and showed concern for his academics inside and outside of the classroom. Discovery is not a highschool but a second home. My experience at Discovery High School (2008 – 2012) …

Discovery High School is all about preparing each student for the world of tomorrow – setting goals to improve each student’s learning and academic achievement and focusing on the efforts towards end results. There were many goals the school achieved to attain such as student career goals, efficient communication between parent and instructor, individual student focus and engagement, and safety. This was all exemplified in the improving graduation rates. Discovery H.S. is on the move with no turning back whereas many students go on to college, trade school, military deployment and much other outstanding advancement.

I became a member of the Parent Teacher Association and school leadership team as an advocate for my child and others in the school’s community. It was an awesome experience partaking in these clubs. Reflecting back, I would recommend all parents to become involved in different ways outside the home and inside the school allowing their children to prosper academically and socially.

Como madre podria decir que tube una bonita experiencia en la escuela Superior Discovery. La comunicación entre la escuela y yo acerca de la educacion de mi hijo fue excelente. La escuela Discovery siempre me informo de todos los acontecimientos relaciones a la educacion de mi hijo. El curriculo de esenanza influyo mucho en la educacion de mi hijo y lo ayudo alcanzar sus metas de graduacion. Como Hispana sin saber el idioma podria decir que la escuela Superior Discovery siempre tubo sus puertas abiertas y el idioma no fue obstaculo para reunirme con los maestros y consejeros de la escuela. Mi hijo Jesus tiene un program de educacion individualizado pero esto no fue barrera para que el se graduara en la escuela Discovery. El recivio mucho apoyo de parte de los maestros y de todo el personal del plantel de Discovery. Yo estoy muy agradecida con la escuela Superior Discovery.
